Last Match for Y11 Footballers ⚽️

Sport 14th Mar 2019

Last week the Year 11 boys played their last match in a hard-fought game against Lincoln Christ Hospital School. The game was very close at 3-2 until the final minutes when LCHS managed to get a fourth goal to end the game 4-2. The boys did the Academy proud and they will be sorely missed by the PE dept when they leave.

Match Report 07/03/19

The Gainsborough Academy VS Lincoln Christ

Weather conditions looking bad and it’s raining down heavily kick off looking unlikely due to unfortunate pitch conditions. Bottom pitch is waterlogged and is completely unplayable on their new pitch location top right pitch.

We’re underway at the Gainsborough Academy arena the fans are going wild as their anticipating kick off. Line up: In goal we have Thomas P, it looks like a back three for the Gainsborough boys consisting off Lewis D,  David  E and Benjamin G in the wing back positions we have Jayden W at LWB and Owen R at RWB We have two in midfield Lewis W-L and Nathan W on the wings we have Charlie T and Oliver S and at striker we have Callum B. Referee today: Mr Mills.

Kickoffs underway it’s Gainsborough’s kick off their dominating in the oppositions half and walk all over them, balls being pinged over the top to the attacking force and it comes to nothing. Christ are on the attack they shoot they score Gainsborough are trailing 1-0. The match gets underway again Christ are now dominating in every stat the ball goes out after a superb save from Tom. It’s a corner ball for Christ the ball gets whipped in and it’s a goal its 2-0 after Gainsborough failed to clear the ball away. Christ are all over the Gainsborough boys now and the ball gets pinged over the top the classic long ball strategy and the player exquisitely takes the ball down under his control and he bends it like Beckham into the top drawer to make it 3-0 to Lincoln Christ.

Half time and Gainsborough are trailing 3-0.

The second half is underway and it looks like a tactical switch from The Gainsborough Manager putting Lewis D up front and dropping Callum B to Center Back. There was some concern over whether Benjamin would be able to continue as it looks like he received a little knock in the first half but he looks okay to continue. Gainsborough have possession Lewis W-L takes it past three and he’s been brought down in the box IT’S A PENALTY! Lewis W-L steps up the pressures on and he slots it calmly into the bottom right-hand corner 3-1 game on. Both teams are back and forth, both teams attacking but none of them taking their chances. Gainsborough are in control of the game knocking the ball around and taking their time Lewis W-L has taken it past one he takes it past another and he crosses the ball perfectly into the pass of Lewis D on the edge of the box he strikes it first time and the ball nestles in the top left-hand corner of the net leaving the keeper no chance. 3-2.

Gainsborough are really in control of the game now free kick on the edge of the box for them but it amounts to nothing. Their pushing men forward looking to score another goal to get back in the game completely Christ pick the ball up in the middle of the park and play it through in the dying moments of the game he’s through on goal the ball deflects of Benjamin to make it  4-2 very unfortunate own goal.

After a great game from both teams battling it out till the end of the match the result ended 4-2 to Lincoln Christ. Man of the Match Award has been given to Lewis D after his superb performance today.
