World Book Day

The Gainsborough Academy celebrated World Book Day in style, with a door decorating competition.  Form groups and their teachers were very competitive and the corridors of TGA have been transformed by the variety of book covers (classroom doors).  This has given staff and students an opportunity to ask questions about favourite books and even recommend some great reads!

Students also participated in a ‘golden ticket’ hunt around school, with lucky winners being awarded brand new books as prizes and a book quiz, to check their knowledge of literature.  Teachers even joined in the fun, with different departments dressing up as famous fictional characters.

During lessons, teachers shared with classes short extracts from books related to their subject to encourage students that reading widely and often is a great way to become a mini subject specialist.

All of these activities support our Reading for Pleasure Programme, which allows students at TGA to read and enjoy a wide variety of novels and non-fiction articles.

A great day has been had by all!
