Local Councillors Visit TGA to Recognise Remarkable Improvement

Earlier this month, we welcomed West Lindsey District Councillors to The Gainsborough Academy (TGA) for a tour of our school and an opportunity to see first-hand the significant progress we have made. This follows our best-ever exam results last year, which placed us among the top 20 most improved schools nationally.

During the visit, our Headteacher, Mrs Skelton, Assistant Headteacher, Mrs Syrichas and some of our students proudly showcased the improvements across teaching, learning and outcomes.

The tour also included a visit to our new SEND hub, Phase, which offers 10 places for children with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), as well as two to three places for TGA students who need that extra bit of support.

Mrs Skelton, said: “It was really great to be able to show some of the councillors around and be able to demonstrate what these changes are, and allow them to see what’s actually happening once you get through the doors.

“The school is part of the community, it’s not isolated. What happens in here impacts what happens in the community and the same in the other direction. We have to work together to be able to ensure that these young people will reach their aspirations and that the community is proud of that.”

Councillor Jackie Broadway, Leader of West Lindsey District Council, added: “For the teachers and the students to achieve this success despite the many challenges is extraordinary. It shows what positive differences can be made to education and why it is important for us to keep engaging with schools and partners to ensure learning is accessible for all children.”

Councillor David Dobbie, Ward Member for Gainsborough East, commented: “My son was part of the Covid generation, where it was difficult to get support. But now that he has obtained an Education, Health and Care Plan, he’s got that extra support until he’s in his 20s. That’s been very much with the support of the school.”

Thank you to all of the West Lindsey District Councillors who came to listen and see why we are Proud to be TGA. We are delighted that our school continues to move in a positive direction, and we remain fully committed to our ongoing improvement journey.
