Admissions
Year 6-7 transition from Primary to Secondary School
Our published Admission Number (PAN) is 240.
The Local Authority deals with all admissions to schools within Gainsborough. The Gainsborough Academy cannot allocate a place to a particular child.
All parents/carers have a right to express a preference for any school for their child. The Local Authority enables parents/carers to apply for up to three schools. Information about each school is given in the school’s prospectus annually, which are available directly from each school. Alternatively, information can be gained from the individual school websites.
Parents/carers will receive a booklet setting out the Local Authority’s policy for admissions of children to secondary schools in July, as their child leaves Year 5 in Primary School. This booklet explains the procedure for expressing a preference(s). The relevant forms can be found in this booklet. You can also apply online through the Lincolnshire Country Council website.
Any application received after the closing date will be considered as a late application and you will be far less likely to obtain a place at your preferred school.
If you wish to apply for a place at a Lincolnshire County Council school, you will need to complete the appropriate form and return it to the School Admissions Team (see address below) by the required date.

An application can be made for a place for a child at any time outside the normal admission round and the child will be admitted where there are available places. The Local Authority will, in so far as is possible, coordinate all in-year transfers for all voluntary aided schools and academies in Lincolnshire.
Follow this advice on how to apply to move schools.

Moving on to secondary school is an important and exciting step in the life of any child. The local authority booklet below provides an explanation of the procedures for you to follow at this important time. It shows how you as parent(s) or carer(s) can be involved in ensuring that your child has a successful transfer to secondary school.
The booklet summarises the Local Authority and schools policies for the allocation of secondary school places. It also refers to some of the other policies which may affect your child either immediately or at some during their secondary education.
