This month, two groups of Y7 students were lucky enough to visit Lincoln Mosque as part of their RE curriculum. At The Gainsborough Academy, RE provides students with the opportunity to learn and understand how the major world religions are embraced, and accepted in the UK. This supports the school’s ethos of British Values centering on ‘tolerance and for those with different beliefs and faiths’.
Students studied the Five Pillars of Islam before our trip, and asked some wonderful questions of the Imam before being shown around the Mosque. Students were also given the chance to read Arabic and hear the call to prayer before returning to school by coach.
One student said ‘it was really good seeing where muslims pray’, others said ‘the best bit was hearing the call to prayer’, and ‘I liked the Arabic symbols on the ceiling and the soft carpet’.
The students represented TGA fantastically, and we are super proud of them!
